Grass-Fed. Grain-Finished.

Grass-Fed. Grain-Finished.

Grain-finished beef, which typically comes from cattle that spend the first part of their of their lives eating wild grass in pastures, followed by time on a carefully balanced diet of grains (e.g., barley, oats, corn, and other nutritious grains) - this is for a number of important reasons.

Firstly, grain-finished beef is renowned for its taste and tenderness, which often surpass that of its grass-fed counterpart. Many believe that the taste and texture of grain-finished beef are simply better, and we agree.

Secondly, grain-finished beef is typically more affordable than grass-finished beef. Cost is a significant factor for many consumers when making food choices. Grain-finished beef can help incorporate good proteins into one's diet more regularly, ensuring they meet their daily protein needs and aiding in muscle repair and recovery — an especially crucial aspect for active individuals in this age group.

In terms of nutritional content, the nutritional differences between grass-finished and high-quality grain-finished beef are less stark than you might think. Both are excellent sources of protein, iron, and B vitamins. Furthermore, grain-finished Wagyu beef has more monounsaturated fats, the same heart-healthy fats found in olive oil.

Importantly, grain-finished beef can also be lean, providing an option for those seeking to manage their fat and calorie intake. Cuts like the sirloin tip, top round, and eye of round are lean choices that offer robust flavor. According to the USDA, a 3-ounce serving of lean beef has less than 10 grams of total fat, 4.5 grams or less of saturated fat, and less than 95 milligrams of cholesterol.

Additionally, with concerns about climate change and sustainable food choices on the rise, especially among younger consumers, it's worth noting that grain-finishing can offer certain environmental benefits. Feedlots are more efficient at converting feed to weight gain in cattle, which means they can produce the same amount of beef with fewer resources.

In summary, grain-finished beef provides a range of benefits from taste and affordability to solid nutritional value and environmental considerations.
